DOUBLE JEOPARDY

Before a refugee leave, no one envisages the potential damage caused to their mental health due to years of uncertainty over settlement or being cast adrift for the rest of their lives.

If people in Afghanistan were aware of all that you give up to become a refugee, I am sure they would think again. The detrimental consequences from the loss of culture, history and language, as well as networks and extended family ties – all the things that make up who you are – is
something no one contemplates before.
